Camp Quinebarge Camp Tour

Quinebarge uses our 75 acres of woods, fields, and 1500' of lakeshore for the activities taking place in our 20 or more "activity areas" around camp. These pictures and map sections let you glimpse some of those activities, laid out as you see them while coming in along the camp road.
Our photo galleries from summers past show many more….. We believe in candid photos -
our kids having fun in our activities- not staged photo-shoots. What you see is what our kids enjoy!
Notice the protected pink Lady Slipper flowering under the sign as a volunteer. Nature up-staging our store-bought flowers! Coming in the Camp Road, right after our sign you see the Riding/Mt. Bike Trail coming in at a cairn on the left. Kids learn how to ride on our in-camp trails before heading out for Bike-Hikes along the quiet dirt roads nearby...
Out in the woods along that trail you find our tent platforms for In-camp Camp-outs to practice for overnight trips… Why practice, when they only need 5 guys to put up a two-man tent!?!
Our Climbing Wall is a little further along on the right…. Safety is always our first concern- helmets for climbers, belayers are well trained in safety and to coach young climbers. Ropes and belay equipment are tested and replaced regularly. Climbing hand-holds are removed when the wall's not in use so no one can climb
without proper equipment and supervision.
In the woods opposite the Climbing Wall, our Archery and Marksmanship activities teach safety and hand to eye coordination with  strict instructors who still make practice and proper procedures fun. You've worked hard so that your arrows are consistently in the Blue, Red and Gold at your yardage? Then you can perhaps have a "crud-shoot" session at balloons, or Monkey-town Money,  or maybe repel the attack of an alien three-legged watermelon!?! Archery is for ages 9 and up.

Our Marksmanship Range with Pellet Rifles is always serious. Never a "crud shoot" there! Parents have to approve for their children to choose the marksmanship activity. Careful adherence to proper procedures and strict safety teaches respect for and safe handling of Air Rifles as stand-ins for more dangerous adult weapons. Guns are out there in our kids real world. Ignorance is their greater danger.
We're not gun nuts- no firearms are allowed at Camp Quinebarge, only two air rifles to help us turn the kids fascination into safe knowledge. Ages 12 and up, only with Parents Permission.
Next on the left side of the Camp Road is our Low Elements for our Ropes Course. Here groups do tasks together to build confidence and teamwork and learn to listen to and follow instructions as a fun way to prepare for the High Ropes, the Wall, and camp sports and games too. At Low Ropes we all work to get each individual through, as part of the whole group. Balance exercises like teeterboards, and reasoning problems like the spiders web lead us to the Q-Wall…where we must use thought and teamwork to get everyone up and over!
The Road comes out of the woods on the left to run along the edge of the ball field… ..and we get our first map segment! Tom wishes he could say campers colored it in arts and crafts, but it's his artwork…. “Q-Campers and Staff invented the Waterballoon Towel-Toss below…Catch with a catch?”
The Ball field is for everything- day and evening activities- except for the Horses…those poor deprived critters line up at the Riding Ring gate to look longingly at it, but they're only allowed out of the ring onto the riding trails…
So they watch Arnie mow it down flat and the rest of us grind up all this nice green grass playing Softball, Soccer, Dodge-Ball, Capture the Flag, and all sorts of other games…. even Frolf!
The Riding Program teaches kids how to care for horses and has them ride at an age- appropriate level- the youngest and the novices get rides in the ring with staff walking beside, while the more practiced learn to vary the horse's pace and take trail rides on the Camp trails and on the dirt roads nearby.
They may even try a little easy Gymkhana… a "barrel race" or "gate opening" or "mail delivery" timed against other riders for fun! We teach both English and Western riding. As always, safety is first: helmets, solid footwear, and long pants are among the safety equipment required!
After Riding come the Tennis Courts - two well-maintained Red Clay Courts to give you that Wimbledon feeling out in the deep woods?
Across from the Tennis Courts are our Family Circle Cabins - Day Cabins for our Day Campers to use as gear storage and changing rooms, Staff and Guest Cabins too. Behind them is Arnie's small garden which is run as part of the Nature Activity, and the Croquet Court for small group games.
Makes a nice place to set up chairs for a wedding too, as seen in our Special Events section. A little further along just before we turn into the main camp….
